Entry to Employment

M-MAD run an Entry to Employment programme aimed at helping young people from 16 to 19 who are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET (Not in employment, education or training)

The programme is based on developing a personalised learning plan exploring their creativity using digital media, with a commitment to learner welfare and learner outcomes.

The emphasis is on learners supported by good staff-learner relations and on tailoring learning to the needs of the individuals.

The delivery of the programme is designed in partnership with learners through a learner-centered approach to help them achieve their goals.

We feel that engagement  should be right for the learner in order to promote ownership, autonomy and control of their learning experience.

Each young person can work towards a Silver Arts Award and will be individually support to progress to the next stage of their lives, either into full or part time work, full or part time education or training or onto voluntary work.

The support includes help with functional skills for life and work as well as personal and social development all of which will be embedded within the vocational area of digital media training.

The programme runs for 22 weeks and the learner attends 16 hours each week (Mondays and Tuesdays).

Learners are entitled to EMA which is not means tested of £30 per week.

I PASSED my Level 2 Silver Arts Award Laughing

I have been writing a script during my time on the E2E programme and decided to make a trailer of the film.  Pete Lankston helped me develop my images and edited the piece.  I directed and acted in it.  Mike Osborne helped me devise the music.

It is work in progress at the moment, still got a few things to do on it

Please take a look at the link and let me know what you think.

Thanks

Freestyle

editingsuitestudio1.jpg

Freestyle is a programme for young people 14 - 19 years, set up to provide a tailored package of learning and engagement for young people who are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET.

The M-MAD programme helps young people by giving them access to high quality digital media equipment to enable them to try different creative ideas, from photography, to creative writing, to music and film making.

Activities Agreement

Working with Careers South West Ltd (Connexions) M-MAD provide a programme as part of a wider Activities Agreement designed to help young people who have not been engaged in education, employment or training for six weeks.

Young people work with their Connexions Personal Advisers to plan a programme of learning and support based on the young people's needs.

Research Project

M-MAD Studio supported a group of young people from North Cornwall taking part in a research project initiated by the Office of Public Management OPM.

The project has been working with the National Youth Agency's Young Researchers Network to investigate how people in Lauceston feel about the way in which media portrays young people today.

Evaluation and analysis

The majority of people interviewed expressed the opinion that young people were presented badly by the media, but that this did not influence their views of young people.  However, the group felt that because the press show young people badly this would have a subliminal influence on people.

The young people are now developing a campaign based on their research showing thier commitment to:

"Improving the image of young people in the press"

Recommendations:

Short Term up to 3 months:

Inform and spread the word - raise awareness that young people are not happy with how they are portrayed

Medium Term 3 months - 1 year

Lobby tabloids to produce young people's news - create an editorial group working with other youth organisations

Long Term upwards of 1 year

Work to organise a national day of celebrating the lives of young people
